Speedify overview

Speedify is the only app that can combine multiple internet sources into one bonded super-connection for more stable and secure live streaming, video calling, and web browsing.

  • Prevent streamergencies - Whether you simply join the occasional Zoom Conference or live stream for a living, Speedify can provide a more stable and reliable streaming experience. Speedify automatically prioritizes audio and video streams and dynamically adjusts to network conditions so you can stop asking "Can you Hear Me?" and start streaming at the speed of all your connections combined!
  • Reliable internet - wherever you go! - Hate when your audio stops or video pauses because you stepped a few feet outside of your Wi-Fi range? Speedify can seamlessly shift your web traffic between available Internet connections without missing a beat or skipping a frame, making it the perfect VPN for our increasingly mobile world. With points of presence in more than 70 locations around the globe, our extensive network of VPN servers ensures that you can access the websites and services you need no matter where you are.
  • Security and privacy - By using the latest and greatest encryption standards, Speedify delivers a super secure connection to ensure that no one sees your sensitive information.
  • No logs - Speedify doesn’t just offer protection from the outside, we respect your privacy too. Unlike other "free" VPN services, we do not log the IP addresses of websites that you visit or the contents of data sent or received through our service.
Features
  • VPN encryption - All data sent through Speedify is now protected by fast encryption which can be turned on whenever you want to using a simple switch on the main screen.
  • Worldwide networks of Speed Servers - The Speedify client works in tandem with Speed Servers across the world to intelligently divide your Internet traffic and deliver the combined speed of all available Internet connections. We have servers in more than 35 cities across the Globe.
  • Application is available in multiple languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Turkish, Arabic and Romanian
  • Packet Loss and Error Correction - Speedify uses a variety of techniques like Forward Error Correction to fix lost and corrupted packets before they have a chance to slow down your Internet experience.
  • Redundant Mode - Have a jittery, lossy, or unreliable Internet connection? In Redundant Mode, Speedify can double the throughput of even a single connection when packets are being dropped, and significantly reduce latency when using multiple connections.
  • Failover Protection - Get disconnected from one of your connections? No problem! Speedify seamlessly moves your traffic to the working connection(s) preventing minor service interruptions from creating major headaches.
  • Connection Priority - With one click you can set Speedify to only use your 4G Phone, Mobile Hotspot, or other expensive or data-capped Internet connections when free options such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet are congested or unavailable.

The quoted price is the unlimited yearly plan (unlimited data, pay now for one year). All plans and pricing information can be found here.

What's new in version 16.7.0

New Features:
  • This release is mostly Starlink. If you have one Starlink, Speedify now lets you monitor and tune it from inside the app. If you have two or more, it coordinates them as a bonded fleet. Outside Starlink: a custom adapter color picker, cellular ISP stats on Linux / Routers, Local Load Balancer Mode for Windows, and a handful of smaller improvements.
  • Starlink Control Center
Three new dashboard cards:
  • Starlink Summary card: Status, throughput, ping, obstruction percentage, and uptime for each dish.
  • Starlink Connectivity card: A 15-minute timeline per dish, plus a Combined row that shows whether your dishes overlap or fill each other's gaps.
  • Starlink Dish Orientation card: A compass-style plot of where each dish is aimed, so you can tell whether multiple dishes actually cover different sky.
Starlink Alignment Wizard:
  • Bonding Alignment mode: Picks per-dish targets across the sky for multi-dish setups.
  • Audio tracking: Beeps as you reduce alignment error, so you can align without watching the screen.
Starlink Obstruction Map:
  • Speedify pulls Starlink's rolling obstruction map directly from the dish and renders it as a polar fish-eye view: green where the dish has clear line-of-sight, red where it's been blocked. When obstruction has a clear directional bias, the alignment wizard suggests a specific rotation (e.g. "Most of the obstruction is to the south. Try rotating the dish 30° north."). With multiple Starlink dishes, the maps render side by side so overlap is visible.
Custom adapter colors:
  • The network adapter color picker now has a custom color option. Pick any color for any adapter.
Slack Huddles detection:
  • Slack Huddles are now detected automatically and treated as a built-in priority stream, alongside Zoom, Teams, and Discord.
Self-Hosted server display names:
  • Self-Hosted servers show their friendly display name in the server picker and on the dashboard, instead of just the hostname. Easier to tell apart when you've spun up more than one.
Windows: Local Load Balancer Mode:
  • The Local Load Balancer Mode is now available for Windows and allows traffic to be distributed between multiple Internet connections per flow/socket completely on the client side, with no VPN connection.
Linux:
  • ModemManager support: Speedify reads cellular ISP stats (signal strength, technology, operator, IMEI, IMSI) from any Linux modem managed by ModemManager, surfaced in the same place as Starlink and other ISP stats.
  • AppArmor compatibility: Improvements for distributions that ship with AppArmor enabled by default.

I tried the app for about 3 months (at the expense of $10 a month), but I did not notice any speed improvement.

First heard about it on Reddit and decided to put it to the test, especially since I'm working while commuting - email, browsing, Skype business video calls, YouTube streaming. On the train, I'm combining Wi-Fi and mobile data and see a variable boost, but 3 of 4 times it's there). I've been able to watch the Emmys the other day during my commute by combining connections. I also tried it with a single connection (bus Wi-Fi) and even then I got a little bit of a boost. They mention this is thanks to their packet loss optimization algorithms. The only downside I would mention so far is that it takes longer to connect to a server from another country - saw this when trying to watch a reality show on BBC iPlayer. Anyway, highly recommend it.

Make sure you understand this before you pay money for Speedify, which I regrettably did: This is first and foremost a VPN service. It's not a bad one, you can pick from loads of locations, and the interface is actually not bad. But it's a VPN service, and one that requires a subscription. Don't think you'll pay $49.99 and are done with that.

Worse: in addition, for me at least, the promise that the apps's name implies is not being kept: this doesn't speedify anything. At all. If anything, it decreases the speed of my internet connection. And before you start: yes, I do have two separate internet lines, one cable, one DSL. Both are connected to my Mac via Thunderbolt adapters. With Speedify running, I get around half the throughput of what my cable line alone gives me without Speedify running. Only in the upload speeds I can see that the two lines are actually linked. But this isn't worth it for the steep decline in download speeds.

In short: if you're looking for a VPN service, you'd be better off with VPN Unlimited or something like that. If you want to combine two internet lines, be prepared that you might not see the results you were hoping for. You're much more likely to find the answer with a hardware solution: a router that offers two WAN ports, like the Draytek v2925.

Just doing some logical thinking about this:

Your internet connection is offering a certain maximum speed for its connection which depends on the type of connection and how much you are willing to pay for. So if the modem/interface/gateway/router is providing multiple ways of connecting to it, such as ethernet and WiFi, it would seem logical to me that the maximum speed would be ultimately limited by the connecting device. To give it a plumbing analogy: If you have water flowing out of a 1/2" pipe and tee it off into several other 1/2' and 3/4' pipes, the maximum flow you are going to get is what flows out of the initial 1/2" pipe unless you increase the size of the feed pipe or increase the pressure of the water feeding it.

So I would surmise that if your modem/gateway/router is providing both your ethernet and WiFi connections then you would still be limited by the feed speed and that using multiple connections with this software would make little difference.

So in order for it to be provide an effective speed increase, I would think you would also need different sources for you connection, say ethernet from you modem/gateway/router and a WiFi connection from your mobile phone connection or your neighbor.

If not, please explain.
